Amsterdam, February 14th - 16th
If you’re reading this, you’re alive. That’s something we all have in common. Why not celebrate this extraordinary fact by trying something new and exciting this weekend. How, you ask? Read on to find out what’s on in Amsterdam.
Valentines Day Plan B
Oh dear. Valentines is upon us. As if that it would have been possible for that fact to escape your notice. The annual singles shaming festival is nigh.
This Valentine’s I’m going to be lying on a sunny beach, surrounded by beautiful and charismatic people, whose primary ambition is for my love, time, and attention.
Alas, how often plans go awry. In case they do, I’ve got a plan B. If things didn’t go your way this year, you’re welcome to come along.
This will be a celebration of all things you cannot do with a date. Eating surplus portions of messy food, drinking to excess, and making dad jokes.
Reserve your spot here.
And if you’re looking for a Plan C, well… De Wallen is just around the corner.
Anti Valentine's Party @ Belushis
Compared to the multitudinous singles and speed dating nights, each one more depressing than the last, Belushi’s have hit the jackpot here. Rather than being treated like a failure on February 14th, instead you are rewarded for your independence and bravery in singledom.
Bring along a (once) cherished memento of your ex, and you can trade it with the bar staff for a shot. They will responsibly dispose of it as you irresponsibly dispose of your memory and motor function.
Sorry to dump this on you.
And sorry for that.
Here’s one thing which you could do just as easily as a couple or a single, and there’s no mention of Valentine’s at all! Over the course of the evening, your chef, teacher, and guide, Meity, will take you through three dumpling styles. You will learn, craft, and most importantly, eat your creations. Ticket price includes everything plus a surprise dessert. Leave with a full stomach and an enriched mind.
Sign up here.
Valentine's w/ GUTS @ Pllek
It’s always good to have something up your sleeve once your date finishes, something to whip out as if from thin air rather than the reality of meticulous planning of your route and ferry timetables. This is a solid bet. Pllek’s expansive waterfront terrace and hippie/industrial fusion will inevitably hit the vibe.
They’ve invited along French producer GUTS to play this Friday, who will get you moving and remind you there are good times ahead.
Evening Photography Walk
If you like efficiency, you’ll like this. Here, you can kill several birds with one stone… Or shot? You improve your photogaphy skills, meet new people, and have a nice bracing wander around some of Amsterdam’s most beautiful spots.
You’ll receive tips and guidance from professional photographers, and share your experiences with like-minded people. Meeting point is in front of Kamera Express on Spui. Get your ticket here.
Rise from the Ashes - Bushfire Fundraiser @ Skatecafe
Skatecafe are organising a special fundraiser for the charred landscape of Australia, and its inhabitants both human and animal. Even if videos of baby koalas don’t tug at your heartstrings, there’s a wonderful lineup at the bar. Join in the afternoon for lunch, or the evening if you just fancy a dance.
Eat, drink, and boogie for a good cause this Sunday.
Jazz @ De Oude kerk
And if all that wasn’t enough, top your weekend off with a lovely mix of spirituality and jazz at the oldest church in Amsterdam for their evening service.
Something for next week: The Great Ramen Tasting
AD is teaming up with Ramen Kingdom, the hottest ramen spot in Amsterdam, to bring you a chance to taste off-menu creations of the restaurant’s Chief Ramen Officer. Very last few tickets remaining. Get them here!
