Amsterdam, November 22nd - 24th
I’m enjoying all this atmospheric mist. But if it’s chilling you to the bone, you can make yourself an autumn blanket out of recently shed leaves to stash under your outer clothes and allow a family of squirrels to hibernate there for the winter months. Or you could see what’s on in Amsterdam in November week #4 and find some indoor comfort and sap precious body heat from other humans. The choice is yours.
Vinyl only @ Cafe Belgique
Cafe Belgique has the impressive ability of being able to accommodate far more people than its modest size should allow. Perhaps the cosy, friendly atmosphere engenders a situation in which nobody minds brushing up against each other or trading a little beer with their neighbour’s trousers.
They have DJs spinning tracks behind the bar every so often. Tonight, you’ll be up close and personal with the sounds of Jazz, Funk, Soul, Disco from Mo Wrights. Stop by to trade some second hand body heat and for an eclectic selection of beers from Belgium and music from further afield.
Have a listen to Mo’s sets here.
A Middle Eastern Dinner Party
Tomorrow, AD and A Beautiful Mess are partnering up to host a special dinner event at the old Bijlmer Prison. It’s a chance to have some authentic Middle-Eastern food in an unusual setting, meet new people from different walks of life, and engage with a forward thinking project in sustainability.
A Beautiful Mess is a project that embraces the imperfections, broken parts, and uncertainties in life. By giving refugees and asylum-seekers a safe space to work, grow, and learn, ABM speeds up integration for people with a refugee background and celebrates diversity.
The dishes come from generations of careful honing: their secret recipes passed down through families, imported from around the world, and now at your table. Nowhere could ABM’s celebration of diversity and promotion of community culminate more than in the food they make.
Food approx €20 pp, including a free welcome drink. Don’y delay! Reserve your spot here.
Children of Light Opening Show
These guys are an Amsterdam based duo of visual artists, putting on their first solo show at HE.RO Gallery. They experiment with light, continually pushing the boundaries of shade, tone, colour, and shadow. Light becomes the main actor in their exhibitions, treated more as sentient protagonist than inanimate element.
The show features a totem pole of projectors, out of which different hues, tones, and intensities of light emanate, bathing the audience in glow and shadow, warping perception.
Amsterdamse Bos Fun Run
Everything’s a pop up these days. How that business model applies to running through a hundred year old forest, perhaps we’ll never find out. One way or another, it’s a great chance to formalise the workout you keep putting off. Perhaps signing up will tip the balance in favour of crowbarring yourself off the sofa and donning your almost-new running shoes.
Rain or shine, it’s a stunning route through the forest. There’s a 6.5k, 13k, and a kid’s loop to choose between. I know which I’d go for…
Ramber Denim Day
I sometimes sit up at night and try to count the tears I shed for those old pairs of jeans that now lie in some dingy landfill. If only someone had told me about Rambler sooner. They understand. They help.
Give those old favourite pieces of denim a new lease of life. Bring them along this Saturday, and work out whether you want to repair, or turn them into something entirely different. Either way, their spirit (and a fair bit of your personal grime) live on in their new form.
Plus, it takes a little strain off the water, chemicals, and transportation needed to make a new pair.
Fight CLub @ Lab 111
I know this is violating the first rule of Fight Club, but

which is why you should definitely go and watch it on Sunday.
De Ceuvel Cleanup
Feel like giving something back? Why not take an hour out of your weekend to take part in a humble yet vital activity, and give a little tidy of the the city we love.
Meet at De Ceuvel, have an hour wandering around Noord picking up bottles and bags, and meet other compassionate people along the way.
