Instore Session @ Rush Hour Records w/ Stump Valley
Every few weeks, Amsterdam’s most famous record store hosts an instore session. It’s a chance to listen to some of the most acclaimed DJs in an intimate environment. This Italian duo are releasing their debut LP. It’s a smooth fusion of glossy soul, jazz, and serene house.
It’s a great stepping stone to ease you into Friday night. Swing by to listen, chat, and have a little boogie. You can bring your own beer and browse records. Enjoy with friends or take it solo.
Unknown Electronics 6 @ Vondelbunker
Vondelbunker is an entirely volunteer-run project. Housed inside an old WW2 air-raid shelter, Vondelbunker have hosted cultural events since 2011. It’s free, and supported entirely by donations.
This Friday, 6 DJs are warming up the floor from behind the decks with live sets. It’s a showcase of underground electronic music talent. Support the artists and the bunker with your presence any shrapnel you can dig from your pocket. Just remember, it’s cash only at the bar.
Bad eyesight? Don’t worry, you won’t need your glasses for this one. The industrial Hembrugterrein is hosting an exhibition of over 80 enormous pieces. Sketches, installations, paintings, and sculptures are displayed in a visceral warehouse setting. Something take your fancy? They’re also available to buy. Though please consider whether you’re going to need to move house to put up your purchase before you type in your pin!
It’s just 30 minutes bike from central Amsterdam, or a quick bus away from Zaandam.
Amsterdam Beer Festival 2019
This will be the third edition of the wildly successful Amsterdam Beer festival. Every province in the Netherlands is bringing their carefully crafted brews for your approval (or not!). Feel like Caesar as you sample their creations – which way will your thumb turn?
There’s also plenty of food (advisable if you want to stay upright), and live music for when Dutch courage settles in.
Tickets available online or on the door.
Open Studio - Special Ceramics
J.C. Herman are opening their doors to the public this Saturday. They’re showcasing their range of extraordinary ceramics to peruse (or to purchase). It’s a great way to see what contemporary artists are up to and gain inspiration for how you can integrate practical art into your home and life.
There’s also a selection of what they call ‘second choice’, and what you could call ‘characterful’, pieces for reduced prices. Those with bumps and uneven shapes. Rather more human, and therefore more attractive.
Waterdance @ Noorderlicht Cafe
Noorderlicht are amazing at hosting parties that make a difference. This Sunday, a group of charities are partnering up to support clean water initiatives in Uganda. All creatives – artists, DJs, and musicians – are bringing their craft for free. 100% of your ticket cost goes to clean water projects. There’s food, drink, music, and art activities running from early evening until the small hours.
All you need to do is come along and have a dance, a paint, or a chill, and you’ll be helping to make a difference to people’s lives.
